Stuart Wooldridge Teaching Qualifications, Experience, and Philosophy

Stuart’s education includes a Master’s in Business Administration (1992) and a Bachelor of Commerce (Finance/Accounting option) (1984) both from the highly respected Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia.  He also completed the prestigious Directors' Education and Accreditation Program (DEAP) awarded by the International Chartered Secretaries Association, 2008.

His business career spans over three decades, including marketing and business development positions with Exxon and Petro-Canada, complemented by considerable expertise in corporate finance, corporate governance, and international business as principal of Orca Strategy.  In various roles as Director, Chief Financial Officer, and member of executive management teams, Stuart gained experience in high-growth, turn-around, and start-up publically listed companies.   He has made frequent trips to China including a stint based in Shanghai, and has undertaken evaluation and due diligence work on investments on behalf of mutual funds and institutional investors.

The combination of education and professional experience has made him a Professionally Qualified adjunct faculty member with the New York Institute of Technology (AACSB accredited) since 2004 and with the University of Phoenix from 2001-2009..   He has experience teaching abroad, holding a one-year adjunct position at RDI/Donghua University based in Shanghai.  Stuart’s teaching philosophy is that students learn when they are engaged.  Engagement is built with real-world examples that reinforce learning objectives, coupled with varied teaching methods and a sense of humour.  This philosophy has resulted in consistently high student evaluations and the John Sperling Award for Excellence in Teaching.

In addition to teaching assignments, Stuart has served as Area Chair on a number of occasions:  developing curricula, evaluating and mentoring instructors, and working on committees.  Courses taught include:
